| About Us: | East Gippsland is a diverse geographical area, bordered to the north-east by mountains and to the south by the sea and extensive Gippsland lakes system. With a population of approximately 38,000 people, it is a predominately rural area; featuring cattle and sheep farming and commercial vegetable growing and processing. Forestry is also another established industry as is the multi-million dollar fishing industry. There is also light industry and retail activities in the centres such as Bairnsdale and Lakes Entrance throughout the area. Tourism also represents an estimated income to the area of $300 million per year. |
