The main tourist attractions are the Flinders Rangers and fishing in the gulf. The world’s biggest smelter is located at Port Pirie and farming is the other major industry.

Actor Keith Michell and footballer and former Crows captain, Mark Bickley are the area’s most famous locals. The Smelter’s Picnic, held in Spring, is the most popular community event.

The region is known for its farming camaraderie, great involvement in sport and working class traditions.

The Recorder has been servicing the community for more than a century and carries local and regional news.

It has a loyal readership, created by its consciousness of its role in the community – that of an informer, watchdog and entertainer.

Eyre Peninsula Advocate

Newspaper Name : Eyre Peninsula Advocate
About Us: The Eyre Peninsula Advocate was founded in 2021 in the absence of a local newspaper presence on the Eyre Peninsula.

Serving a region rich in agricultural and aquaculture production, its wheat and grain growing industries, as well as seafood sector, are famous well past the triangular peninsula. The region is also known for its mining, plus pristine beaches and natural attractions.

The main townships include Port Lincoln in the south, Whyalla in the north east and Ceduna in the north west, with tight-knit communities dotted throughout the region.

Circulating throughout Eyre Peninsula, the newspaper has helped to fill a void caused by the closures of the West Coast Sentinel and Eyre Peninsula Tribune newspapers in 2020.
